The CampusGRID CHILDREN'S PRIVACY AGREEMENT
CampusGRID is committed to an online environment where children may explore the Internet without compromising their privacy. Children younger than 15 years old may use your School Web site, so to be sure that the children's rights are protected and that their use of the Internet is properly supervised, you must agree to comply with the terms of this policy in addition to the CampusGRID Member Agreement.
Preliminary Comments:
The primary purpose of this agreement is to protect and limit the public distribution of personal information about children that could be used to identify them either for unsolicited advertising or harassment. The following requirements for parental consent, the scope of the disclosure to parents, and the limitation of children's access to the Internet are required to comply with the Federal Children's Online Policy Protection Act, 15 U.S.C. 160, and related regulations. For the purpose of this agreement, "Personal Information" about a child includes the child's last name, addresses, pictures, or any other information, or collection of information that would allow someone to identify the child. A child's first name, alone, is not Personal Information.
Posting Personal Information about Children by the School:
You will not post any child's Personal Information on any part of your School Web Site, without first obtaining their parent's or guardian's written consent. The request for consent will identify the scope of the information to be posted, what portion of the information to be posted will be publicly available on the Internet, if any, and who will have access to information that is not publicly available. If the scope of the information changes materially, you will obtain an updated permission from the parent. You will also give parents the opportunity to remove their child's Personal Information from the site after it has been posted. These restrictions apply even if access to the area of the site where the information is posted is limited only to students, or to teachers and administrators.
Allowing Children to Post Personal Information.
If you would like a child to build a web page on your School Web Site, you
must first obtain written permission from the child's parent or
guardian. The request for permission must explain who will have
access to the child's web page, who will be supervising the child's
work, and what type of Personal Information the child will be allowed
to include on the web page. An adult must review any child's work
created in the CampusGRID Service area, and must approve any web
page before it may be posted.
Maintaining Compliance with the Terms of Service and Supervising Children's
Use.
You accept all responsibility for any child's use of your School Web Site, and the CampusGRID Service area. This responsibility includes obtaining the necessary parental consent described herein. You also accept all responsibility for controlling access to the School Web Site, and the related CampusGRID Service area, through passwords and other means, so that children's Personal Information that is posted remains protected.
Before allowing a child to use the School Web Site, you agree to assess the
ability of that child to understand the rules regarding the site,
and the Internet in general, and to take whatever measures are necessary
to be sure that the child appreciates and complies with them. You
will maintain current records of all parental permission, and the
names of everyone given a password to access any CampusGRID Service
Area which also allows access by a child. We may review these records
during normal school hours, on giving reasonable prior notice, and
without interfering with normal school activities.
Our Commitment to Children's Privacy.
- We will not collect any Personal Information about children from your School Web Site, except from the registration information provided by children or children's parents when they register as users of the School Web Site. In general, we will use information we collect to verify the child's identity when he or she enters a member's-only area of the site, and to make the child's experience at the web site more personal and easier to navigate. We may use the personal information to verify the child's identification for receipt of information through the School Web Site, but only when the child or his or her parent has asked to receive the information.
- We may aggregate Personal Information so that it is no longer identifying, and use it for marketing, promotional and advertising purposes, for a statistical analysis of users' behavior, and for product development and content improvement.
- We will not provide any Personal Information collected about children, regardless of its source, to any third party for any purpose whatsoever, other than to:
- provide information to a child's parent or guardian about the child,
- provide information to you, or
- comply with the law or a court order.
You must acknowledge your agreement with these provisions to protect children's
privacy by agreeing to the CampusGRID Members Agreement to which
this document is an amendment.
